FDA names CFSAN director

Executive Summary
Stephen F. Sundlof becomes director of FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition effective Jan. 7, agency Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach announces Jan. 4. Sundlof replaces Robert Brackett, now a Grocery Manufacturers/Food Products Association executive (1"The Tan Sheet" Nov. 26, 2007, p. 8). Sundlof moves to CFSAN after more than 10 years as director of FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine. He previously was a professor at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Von Eschenbach says Sundlof has "extensive experience in the food safety arena, including service on numerous domestic and international committees on food safety, where he served as chairman and led the development of new international policies and safety standards."
