Lowey reintroduces sunscreen monograph bill

Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., reintroduces the Skin Cancer Prevention, Education, and Consumer Right-To-Know Act April 23. The bill, H.R. 2088, would give FDA 180 days to finalize its long-awaited monograph for broad-spectrum sunscreen ingredients that protect consumers from both UVA and UVB rays. The legislation, similar to a bill Lowey introduced in the previous Congress, would also require the Department of Health and Human Services to initiate a nationwide education campaign on the importance of sunscreen application (1"The Tan Sheet" Dec. 15, 2008, p. 12).
