This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

FDA's Science Board will review the agency's progress on rapidly detecting salmonella in food during a public meeting May 18 in Rockville, Md. The agency prioritized detecting salmonella in food during the March Science Board meeting in response to the 2007 jalapeno pepper contamination (1"The Tan Sheet" March 2, 2009, p. 8). The board also will review the agency's information technology infrastructure modernization, which the board said was so inadequate it hindered FDA's ability to fulfill its mission (2"The Tan Sheet" Dec. 17, 2007, p. 10).
