California’s latest iteration of the Safer Consumer Products regulations cuts the universe of “chemicals of concern” from 4,000 down to 1,200. The state’s Department of Toxic Substances Control will select the first five chemical/product category combinations up for review 180 days after the regulation enters into force.

Mislabeled Nail Polishes Warrant Increased Regulation – California DTSC
California’s DTSC takes issue with nail polish brands that erroneously claim to be free of toluene, dibutyl phthalate and formaldehyde, calling its review a “wakeup call for greater transparency.” The PBA’s Nail Manufacturers Council does not dispute or disagree with the testing results, but “strongly objects to the report’s lack of perspective and balance.”
