A Nov. 21 consent decree sets multiple deadlines over a five-year period to make FDA finalize its OTC topical antimicrobial drug products monograph with respect to triclosan. The Personal Care Products Council and the American Cleaning Institute tout a study they say confirms that consumer use of antimicrobial agents triclosan and triclocarbon does not lead to antibiotic or antibacterial resistance.
