FDA Cites Adulteration In Warning Letter To Juice Beauty Manufacturer

FDA’s latest warning letter to a cosmetics firm departs from the agency’s crackdown on drug-like structure/function claims, targeting contract manufacturer Gemdo Cosmetics for facility conditions and evidence of microbial contamination that cause its products to be adulterated under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. In the April 16 letter, FDA cites eye products produced at the firm’s plant, including Juice Beauty offerings subject to a July 2014 recall.

Top Industry Players Explore Pre-competitive Preservative Development

Following Forum for the Future’s Beauty and Personal Care Products Sustainability Summit, co-hosted by Walmart and Target in September 2014, a working group has emerged to solicit stakeholder input and devise a plan for “pre-competitive development of new preservative systems.” P&G, J&J, Unilever, Henkel and BASF will serve on a steering group to guide and inform the working group’s efforts, with questions already about the legal implications of pre-competitive collaborations.
