ICCR Adds Cosmetic Product Preservation To Agenda For Ninth Meeting

During a public preparatory meeting in advance of the ninth International Cooperation for Cosmetics Regulation summit, FDA Office of Cosmetics and Colors Director Linda Katz said that the topic of cosmetic product preservation will be included on the agenda for the first time. Animal-testing alternatives, allergens and trace impurities also are up for discussion, continuing regulators' work from last year on those topics.

Cosmetic Preservation Issue Taken Up By ICCR Regulators

At the ninth iteration of the International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation, regulators from the US, EU, Canada, Japan and Brazil accepted an FAQ document on the role of cosmetic preservatives and agreed to assist in driving eyes to the resource once it publishes. CIR Considers Another Look At MI Safety In Light Of European Situation

At its Sept. 21-22 meeting, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel will consider a recent opinion from the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety, which rejected updated industry data as grounds for raising safe-use MI limits in rinse-off cosmetics from 15 ppm to 100 ppm. CIR's current position is that concentrations of the preservative up to 100 ppm are safe in such products and that MI can be used safely in leave-on cosmetics, which SCCS also denies.
