Profitability at Vickers' Medical Division "suffered in the face of extremely difficult market conditions", says the UK company whose diversified business interests span defence equipment and cars as well as medical equipment. Operating profit by the medical business was down to £900,000 ($1.4 million) in 1995 from £6 million the year before. Turnover by the division rose 3.5% to £122.9 million.
