Executive Summary
o-BENZYL-p-CHLOROPHENOL IS NEPHROTOXIC IN RATS AND MICE, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Toxicology Program (NTP) concluded in a recently released report on the toxicology and carcinogenesis of the broad spectrum germicide in F344/N rats and B6C3F[1] mice. In the two-year gavage studies, the severity of the kidney damage was increased in male and female rats exposed to the ingredient, NTP stated, while both "the incidence and severity of nephropathy was increased in male and female mice." Moreover, "the incidence and severity of nephropathy increased with length of treatment," the study noted.
