Executive Summary
CTFA believes that FDA should look at "cosmetic drug" product categories such as antiperspirants and sunscreens on an individual basis while considering new labeling standards for OTC products. FDA currently is looking into developing more easily readable OTC labels and is considering requiring labeling similar to the "Nutrition Fact" box currently required on all packaged foods. CTFA VP and General Counsel Tom Donegan noted that "there are many issues that apply to cosmetic drugs that wouldn't necessarily be taken into account if you were just looking into aspirin or cough and cold medicine," at the trade association's recent Scientific Conference. CTFA is planning to attend the January OTC Drug Labeling and Consumer Communication meeting sponsored by the Drug Information Association, and may collaborate on an NDMA presentation on the industry's perspective on the issue
