AVON U.S. PRETAX PROFITS ADVANCE 32% IN 1994, the "highest level in more than a decade," Avon Chairman and CEO James Preston stated in a Feb. 2 release of operat-ing results. Avon-U.S., which accounts for 36% of company sales, posted double-digit pretax profit gains in all four quarters of 1994, a turnaround from the four quarters of pretax profit declines in 1993. Avon fourth quarter 1994 pretax profits grew 25% following increases of 32%, 38% and 32% in the first, second and third quarters, respectively.
