Executive Summary
HOUSE FDA REFORM BILL SHOULD BE READY FOR JANUARY CONSIDERATION, predicts House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA). In a presen-tation to a Sept. 12 legislative briefing sponsored by the Washington law firm of Hogan & Hartson, Gingrich was asked about the prospects for an FDA bill in the crowded legislative schedule. The speaker responded that he expects to see a proposal for "radical reform" by January of next year. That schedule assumes that separate proposals such as a bill specific to medical device reform (HR 2290, introduced on Sept. 8) can be melded with other proposals for drug reform.
