FIRST QUARTER SALES OF $23.7 MIL. drive Estee Lauder makeup product sales up 15% to $289.6 mil. for the first quarter of FY 1996 (ended Sept. 30), the company reported in an unaudited financial statement included in an Oct. 27 amendment to its preliminary prospectus for an initial public offering. Lauder affiliate Lauder Family Partners gained a majority equity interest in the Toronto-based manufacturer of M.A.C. -- Make-Up Art Cosmetics -- in early 1995. Unit volume for Lauder's makeup segment also grew 15% in the quarter.
