Bausch & Lomb: Marketer of Curel and Soft Sense lotions appoints William Carpenter as president and chief operating officer. According to the firm, Carpenter is "the most likely successor candidate" for the Chairman/CEO slot vacated Dec. 31 by Daniel Gill's retirement. Carpenter ascends to the new post after being tapped last month as exec VP for Bausch & Lomb's core contact lenses, lens care products and eyewear businesses. Carpenter came to B&L in March from his position as head of Reckitt & Colman PLC's U.S. operations. Prior to joining Reckitt & Coleman in 1991, he spent 13 years at Johnson & Johnson.
