California Prop 65: Draft list of 31 chemicals prioritized for review based on "carcinogenicity concern" under California's "Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act" (Proposition 65) includes cosmetic ingredients benzyl acetate, butyl benzyl phthalate, coumarin, eugenol, hydroquinone, propyl gallate and vinyl acetate, the California Environmental Protection Agency Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment announced Oct. 4. OEHHA also has prioritized formaldehyde and 1,3-butadiene "on the basis of reproductive toxicity concern," the agency said.
