California Prop 65 public meeting: To be held Oct. 29 in Sacramento, Calif. to discuss the inclusion of nitromethane, an ingredient used as a can corrosion inhibitor, in California's "Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act" (Proposition 65) list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. Nitromethane is listed in the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association's International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary. CTFA noted, however, that there are no reported cosmetic uses for the ingredient. The California Environmental Protection Agency Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment is soliciting comments and relevant information to determine the risk of the compound.
