Carson Products: Ethnic personal care company acquires Let's Jam ethnic hair care line from New Image Labs, a subsidiary of Stephan, for $5.6 mil. in cash, Savannah, Ga.-based Carson Products announced April 9. The Let's Jam line, which comprises shampoos, conditioners, spritzers and styling gels, generated sales of $5.8 mil. in 1996, Carson said. The buy will strengthen Carson's position in the hair maintenance category, the one major segment of the ethnic hair care category in which the firm does not hold the leading market share, according to the company. Carson said it plans to introduce the line globally through its established international distribution channels. The Let's Jam deal is the second acquisition Carson has announced in less than two weeks; the company signed an agreement with Chesebrough-Pond's to purchase the Cutex trademark and nail line for $42 mil. on March 31 ("The Rose Sheet" April 7, p. 6)...
