Endocrine disruptors: National Toxicology Program holding meeting on endocrine disruptor initiatives May 14, NTP announced in an April 30 Federal Register notice. The board plans to review NTP and National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences' studies on the toxicity and carcinogenicity of endocrine disruptors. Endocrine disruptors, or modulators, are believed to alter growth and development of the endocrine system. The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association has been following the issue, but said it is "unlikely" it will attend the hearing. The trade group said industry and the government need to first determine if endocrine modulators have any effect on humans and then consider appropriate testing methods for products. The Environmental Protection Agency is dedicating $30-$50 mil. to investigate testing methods, according to CTFA.
