Selling, general & administrative costs were trimmed to 21.2% of the company's consolidated sales, compared to 23.3% of sales in the prior-year period, VP-Investor Relations Everett Howe said during an Oct. 16 conference call with securities analysts. The effort to reduce SG&A expenses was a "function of overall cost control," the Gillette exec explained. Savings were also realized from the completion of the integration of the Duracell battery business.
