NEUTROGENA GLOW SELF TANNER SALES CLIMB 57.9% TO $21.5 MIL. IN 1997, making it the sixth-ranked sun care lotion and oil brand, according to data from Chicago-based Information Resources, Inc. With a dollar share of 5.1% and a unit share of 4%, the Johnson & Johnson subsidiary's six-SKU sunless tanning line is gaining on number five Bain de Soleil (Pfizer), which includes a line of sunscreens, as well as self-tanners. Schering-Plough's Coppertone retained its hold on the number one spot with a 14.9% dollar share of the market, while Playtex' Banana Boat captured a 13.8% share of the $417.8 mil. total OTC suncare market. Private label sunscreens and Hawaiian Tropic hold the third and fourth sunscreen spots, with 8.1% and 6.4% of the market, respectively.
