NPD Beauty FragranceTrack study reveals 82% of teen boys ages 13-17 wear fragrance. Most (58%) buy fragrances at mass merchants such as Wal-Mart or Target or food and drugs stores. By comparison, 13% of teen boys shop for fragrance in department stores, followed by 8% at national chain stores, 6% at apparel specialty stores and 3% at fragrance specialty stores, NPD reports. Once in store, 63% of teen boys said they bought a fragrance because they liked the scent, 35% because of the price, 30% were influenced by a friend or family member, 13% selected the scent for the bottle, 12% bought it because it came with a gift set and 4% said they were influenced by a sales person.
