National Stem Cell Holding has announced that it will file a provisional patent application for a group of biomaterials that could be suitable for use in anti-aging skin-care products. Derived from the firm's stem cell and progenitor cell lines, the biomaterials "may stimulate a variety of naturally occurring physiological mechanisms that are involved with the skin's ability to preserve and repair itself," the firm says in Oct. 16 release. "These newly discovered biomaterials appear to promote the skin's natural ability to maintain youthful tone, texture and viscoelasticity," it adds. The company notes that further research needs to be conducted, but that the biomaterials may be incorporated eventually in cosmeceuticals, cosmetics and post-surgery applications, providing access to what is expected to be a $70 mil. market for anti-aging solutions within three years, according to National Stem Cell Holding...
