FDA is initiating a "broad search" for a director of its Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition upon the departure of Robert Brackett, PhD, who is leaving the agency to join the Grocery Manufacturers/Food Products Association as senior VP and chief science and regulatory officer, FDA announces Nov. 1. Brackett is assuming his new position now. Having served as head of CFSAN since 2004, Brackett has "provided exceptional leadership over critical food safety, food defense and nutrition issues during an ever-increasing globalization of the food supply," FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach says.
