Executive Summary
Marketer of Dove and Axe brands will source 75% of its paper and board packaging from recycled materials or sustainably managed forests by 2015 and 100% by 2020, according to July 2 release. Firm claims it is first global consumer goods firm to make such a commitment "within a clearly defined timeline." Unilever purchases "considerable quantities" of paper goods for product packaging, and making this commitment to sourcing "promote[s] sustainable forestry practices and help[s] combat climate change," Chief Procurement Officer Marc Engel notes. Firm will give preference to paper products delivered through the Forest Stewardship Council's certification and will accept products sourced in accordance with comparable international forest-management standards. Logos of certifiers will begin appearing on sustainable packaging "to increase consumer awareness and promote the expansion of certified forests in the world," firm says. Initiative is part of Unilever's drive to double its business while reducing its environmental impact
