Exiting PCPC Science Chief Reflects On Role In Trying Climate

In an exclusive interview with “The Rose Sheet,” PCPC’s new Chief Scientist Beth Lange cites familiar challenges, including the need to combat misinformation regarding cosmetic ingredient safety. In a survey conducted by IQPC division Pharma IQ, 31% of cosmetics industry members identified “what preservatives you can use” as the biggest challenge facing their business since implementation of the European Union’s Cosmetics Regulation in July 2013. Others cited challenges related to animal-testing alternatives and the regulation’s definition of nanomaterials.
Industry must keep consumers at the forefront of its decisions as it grapples with regulatory issues regarding fragrance allergen labeling, preservatives and nanotechnology, Cosmetics Europe Director-General Bertil Heerink suggested in an interview with “The Rose Sheet.” Remaining mindful of consumer needs and perceptions will help drive public trust in the cosmetics industry, which is one of the biggest challenges the sector faces, he said.
