Recommendations by the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods expert panel regarding four in vitro ocular toxicity test methods - Isolated Rabbit Eye, Bovine Corneal Opacity and Permeability, Hen's Egg Test - Chorioallantoic Membrane and Isolated Chicken Eye - are available now on ICCVAM's Web site, agency announces in a March 20 Federal Register 1notice. Report reflects conclusions from Jan. 11-12 meeting, during which the panel recommended additional testing and protocol modifications for assays. Panel members determined IRE and BCOP appeared to be capable of identifying ocular corrosives and severe irritants but recommended HET-CAM and ICE be considered partial replacements for in vivo assays (2"The Rose Sheet" Jan 17, 2005, p. 4).
